I recently sent emails, inviting people to a private reading gone public. The response was pathetic....brought me from three to six followers. Don't know what I expected. Guess I thought I'd have a wider audience.
Identify your audience is the No. 1 rule in any writing. If I know anything, I know that. So. Who's my audience? Am I writing for the unknown reader or for me?
I just this very second experienced an "ah ha" moment. It's me. It's ME.
OK--on with it.

I think I have only six followers. Or maybe fewer. A blog following has a lot to do with word of mouth and networking- give it time. And blog love is also a good thing- comment on other people's blogs. Strangers blogs. Blog etiquette generally says if you comment on theirs, they will come comment on yours.
A suggestion. Join a newsgroup. I prefer yahoo groups but there are many out there. You could even use Myspace. The interesting thing about Myspace is that you don't even have to create a profile for YOU. I know someone who made a profile for his turtle. Others have made profiles for their businesses or their reading groups or music or anything really. I did want to let you know though...the biggest thing actually ISN'T to know your audience because most topics can hold some interest in one way or another for most people. A travel blog is especially interesting because that is something many people wish to do but don't, won't, or feel they can't. The biggest question to ask yourself, is what do I have to offer? Once you have that established, it's significantly easier to reword that to appeal to many different demographs. I'd be happy to help you market your blog if you'd like and talk about perhaps using it to make money. Another note, props to your post on money. I think a lot of money is NOT required to do the things you want or live a good life, it just opens up some more options. ;) Where there is a will, there is a way though, and if you'd like, I can try and help you find that. Send me an email or give me a call, if you'd like. I also use yahoo instant messenger, if I recall you have that too? My username is just tealeaves0187 and I am signed on most days, most of the time. Whatever you choose to do, GOOD LUCK!!!
